An introduction to the FEMA mapping resources developed to support the implementation of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Topics include how to use the various types of Flood Insurance Rate Maps, such as the older paper maps, more recent digital maps, and the National Flood Hazard Layer, as well as provide an overview of resources available to access these maps. The course will emphasize the local Floodplain Administrator’s role in and responsibilities for permitting NFIP compliant development by utilizing the Flood Insurance Rate Maps, making floodplain determinations, and reviewing elevation certificates. This course also goes into depth about the Letter of Map Chance (LOMC) process that is used to revise the FIRM.
