Future of Facilitated Recreation

This session will explore challenges, opportunities, conversations, and connections that are at the forefront of the profession of participant-facing facilitated recreation. We define a participant-facing outdoor facilitator as a person who leads or assists people in outdoor recreation and education activities.
Learning Objectives:
- Backcountry to front office: identify barriers and solutions for assisting outdoor professionals better articulate their skill sets as well as share the demand and employment options available that may not be readily apparent.
- Overqualified and Under Experienced: identify certification and training providers and the challenges of the outdoor industry – hiring, pay, certifications, training, risk and liability, quality and legitimacy, and sustainability
- Sustainability of an Outdoor Recreation Career: exploration of compensation – pay and benefits, living and working conditions, housing affordability, DE&I – culture, cohorts, money conflicts.
