ReLeaf webinar: Achieving Equitable Urban Greening
October 25 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Achieving Equitable Urban Greening: Key Strategies & Considerations
Join us for a lunch time webinar with Dr. Lincoln Larson of NC State on his research into equitable urban greening. Trees are excellent partners in the fight against climate change and recent federal funding in the Inflation Reduction Act present a “tree-mendous” opportunity to add trees to our communities. However developing equitable tree planting plans that communities can successfully execute is a challenge. Despite the many benefits of urban greening, tree-planting programs in diverse communities nationwide often face local resistance, especially on private lands. By impeding trust and hindering community engagement efforts, this resistance impacts the long-term success and sustainability of greening initiatives. Our team is conducting a national study to better understand social and cultural factors that influence the success of urban greening interventions, ultimately identifying effective and socially just practices to guide tree planting efforts in diverse urban communities. In this session, we will identify prominent challenges, explore promising practices, and discuss key lessons learned with respect to equitable urban greening. Registration is required for this free event; register now.
